Cattle breeders face higher marketing levy
6 Apr 2005

Cattle producers face a rise of almost 50 per cent in the levy they pay every time they buy or sell a beast in order to fund a marketing effort of Australian beef in both domestic and foreign markets. The levy will rise from $3.50 to $5. Cattle farmers will be polled during June and July on whether they would agree to the increase in the levy. Domestic beef consumption increased by 15 per cent between 2002 and 2004.
