Farmers reluctant to cap basin bores 15 Apr 2005
Fewer farmers are willing to cap their water bores throughout the Great Artesian Basin, potentially exacerbating the present decline in water pressure in many bores, and adding to fears that water is being consumed at an unsustainable rate. The federal government has paid subsidies to farmers for caps on 137 bores over the last five years.
