Slow moving US beef farmers open the door to Australian exporters 27 Apr 2005
A study by investment group Rural Management Partners said the US was likely to resume beef exports to Japan and Korea this year, but said US exporters may take 10 years to recover their market share. RMP said US producers were not very motivated to meet the stringent regulations set by Japan and Korea for tracking the origin of beef. As a result, RMP except strong demand from Japan for Australian beef until at least 2010. In addition, strong domestic demand for beef in the US was not being met by its own production, making the US a net importer of beef for the next 10 years.
