Mill negotiations turn sour
27 Apr 2005

Cane farmers negotiating with CSR say they would be prepared to withhold cane supply from the major sugar mill rather than sign an agreement that locks them out of a reasonable share of the profits from value adding. Burdekin United Growers said CSR offered an extra 11 cents a tonne of cane, as their share of the proceeds from the sale of cane fibre for use in electricity production at the Invicta mill. Cane growers say the incremental payment is insulting.
