Cattle and sheep farmers facing a winter cull
10 May 2005

The Meat and Livestock Corporation said some farmers in Victoria would have to start culling some of their cattle and sheep, unless they received rain in the next few weeks. With temperatures easing in early winter, it will be too late for adequate pasture growth even if rain does fall. The Meat and Livestock Corporation said dairy farmers in the Campaspe region in central Victoria had had to buy feed, after having their water allocations from the local irrigation system cut.
