Winter crops still feasible
10 May 2005

There is still a window of opportunity to plan winter crops in western New South Wales, despite the lack of rain according to the Department of Agriculture. The department said that whilst the drought is still not over, there was still potential for a crop this season, but that farmers may have to change their cropping plan. Less than 15mm of rain was recorded across the Parkes district in the last two months, with the season starting to look unfavourable for early sown crops such as canola, lupins and winter wheats. However, the department says there is still time for some of these crops to be sown if it rains soon.
