Shipping shortage may curtail sheep exports
11 May 2005

A shortage of shipping means that live sheep exporters may have to curtail their trade with the Middle East. Exporters expect some ship owners will choose to retire their ships from 2007, rather than upgrade them to include a back-up electricity network to protect ventilation systems. The number of ships plying the trade is down to six or seven from 10 to 12 ships a few years ago.
