Land clearing rules under review in Victoria
12 May 2005

Farmers who clear a single hectare of bushland in Victoria may have to plant or protect up to 20 hectares of native vegetation on their land, under regulations being considerered by the Department of Sustainability and Environment. New guidelines on land clearing include formulas that calculate the amount of vegetation that would need to be preserved or planted if a landowner wished to clear bush.
