Drought cuts farm production but pushes prices higher
17 May 2005

The drought is pushing up the price of lamb and beef, while the price of eggs and flowers may also rise if Victoria's drought continues. The Cattle Council of Australia said if the dry weather continued, beef supply would be cut and retail prices would increase in the next month. Industry body the Livestock Group said Victorian farmers were now selling stock, and that once supply runs out, demand would outstrip supply, and send the price of mince, rump and mutton higher. The Australian Egg Corporation said feed prices had risen in the past month and increased production costs.
