More financial assistance on the way for farmers 24 May 2005
Federal cabinet is set to announce new drought relief measures that will include increased assistance and more flexibility. Cabinet agreed to most of the options before it, including speedier delivery of relief, cash grants, interest rate subsidies, easing means tests on farmers seeking relief who earn off-farm income and extra funding for counselling. Cabinet also examined how to best roll over relief from a scheme which assumes a two-year drought, when the rain fails for longer periods.
