Long term cycle indicates many more dry seasons likely
7 Jun 2005

Australia’s climate may be returning to the drier pattern that was dominant in the first half of the twentieth century. After a 50 year cycle of wetter years, the climate may now be reverting to a drier pattern. The National Climate Centre said the first two decades of last century and the 1940s had high frequencies of drought-linked El Nino events. From about 1950 to 1980, wetter years were frequent. Since the 1980s, the El Nino dry periods have become quite common.
