Wetter West offset the dry in eastern Australia
8 Jun 2005

The quarterly crop report from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics estimates that winter crop production nationwide would fall by 17 per cent to 26.1 million tonnes. ABARE said wheat production would fall by 21 per cent; barley would fall by 13 per cent and canola by 30 per cent. On a geographic basis, ABARE expects a 55 per cent fall in winter crop production in New South Wales; a 27 per cent fall in Queensland and a 26 per cent fall in South Australia. However, the wet conditions in the west will increase the winter crop in Western Australia by 16 per cent.
