Fonterra buys rest of Bonlac
8 Jun 2005

New Zealand dairy cooperative Fonterra will buy a Nestle dairy plant in Victoria and buy the 50 per cent of Bonlac Foods it does not already own. Fonterra said the takeovers would increase Fonterra's Australian turnover by $200 million to $1.6 billion. The acquisition will bring Murrumbidgee Dairy Products, a producer of liquid milk, desserts and yoghurt company based at Wagga Wagga into the Fonterra fold.

Under this package, Fonterra will consolidate Bonland Dairies in Melbourne and Peters & Browne in Perth as Fonterra Brands. However, Fonterra will retain iconic brand namess, including Mainland cheese, Bega, Perfect Italiano, Western Star butter, Cadbury's ice-cream and Peters.
