Dairy farmers wary despite high prices 8 Jun 2005
Research, development and marketing body Dairy Australia said producers were still in much better circumstances than during the 2002/03 drought and were experiencing the second highest milk prices on record. Even so, dairy farmers fear the drought in eastern Australia will undermine forecast strong market conditions. Dairy Australia says production is expected to remain stable in 2006 at around 10.1 billion litres of milk. Production is forecast to grow by about two per cent in each of the following two years. About 20 per cent of dairy production areas are currently affected by the dry conditions.
