Potato growers spitting chips over fast food contract
10 Jun 2005

McDonald's is looking to import half its potato supply from New Zealand. McDonald's last month cut its contract with Simplot to buy potatoes in half, from 80,000 tonnes a year to 40,000. Simplot in turn sources all its potatoes from growers in Tasmania. Simplot last month lost the balance of the contract for 43,000 tonnes of potatoes to growers in McCain, which in turn is expected to source the spuds from New Zealand.
