Kiwis take apples ban to WTO
15 Jun 2005

New Zealand’s government will take Australia to the World Trade Organisation over the ban on the import of Kiwi apples. Australia’s quarantine authorities exclude the fruit over fears it may import the disease fireblight, and has banned Kiwi apples for more than 80 years. Kiwi growers believe the exclusion is political, and a trade barrier. It is the first time New Zealand has gone to the WTO over a dispute with Australia.
