Feds refuse to revoke pork import licences
17 Jun 2005

The federal government said it would allow 83 two-year licences to import pork to operate until they expire next year. The decision flies in the face of the spirit of a Federal Court decision, which ruled the government must revoke the import licence of Fayman International, the company named in an action bought by the industry body Australian Pork Limited, against the quarantine agency, Biosecurity Australia. The government said it would appeal against the court ruling. Australian Pork has written to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries demanding that they revoke all 84 import licences for pork and threatening to take further legal action to block the other licences.
