El Nino threat recedes 17 Jun 2005
The chance of an El Nino warming of Pacific Ocean temperatures, and thus potentially a drought in Australia, have receded from a 60 per cent chance to a 25 per cent chance, according to the National Climate Centre. A 25 per cent chance is the same chance that would prevail in any year. The centre said most indicators were no showing any sign of trend that towards El Nino status. The centre said more rainfall was likely next week, after falls of between 25 and 50mm in many parts of south-eastern Australia.
