Lettuce trade blown over by aphids 24 Jun 2005
Lettuce growers in Victoria are unable to sell their produce interstate after an outbreak of aphids on crops. Several Victorian farms have reported aphids on their lettuce crops in recent months, leading to restrictions on trade. The aphids, found at lettuce farms in Melbourne's outer east, were first identified in Tasmania last year after arriving from New Zealand on easterly winds. The pests were confined to Tasmania until they were carried to Victoria and discovered in March this year.
