$25,000 charge to connect to Mallee pipeline
27 Jun 2005

Farmers in north-western Victoria will pay one third of the cost of a $500 million Wimmera-Mallee pipeline. The state and federal governments will also pay a third of the cost. The pipeline project will conserve water and increase flows across about 10 per cent of western Victoria. A farmer with a typical 810 hectare farm can expect to pay between $20,000 and $30,000 to connect to the network. It is expected to supply stock and domestic water to about 6000 farms and 36 towns from the Grampians to the Murray River.
