AWB loses Iraq wheat contract 27 Oct 2005
Iraq awarded a tender for one million tonnes of wheat to two US firms, Columbia Grains and Louis Dreyfus. The Trade Ministry chose US wheat after Australia declined to make offers on an FOB (free on board) basis. Iraq has said it will buy one million tonnes of wheat every 40 days until early next year to fill strategic reserves.
Australia was the major wheat supplier under the UN oil for food programme which started in 1996.
