Bush phone lines may cost much more
31 Oct 2005

Telstra warned that people in rural areas could end up paying 10 times more for their telephone lines if the competition regulator forces Telstra to cut the amount it charges competing telcos for network access in the city. The ACCC wants Telstra to sell access to its network to competitors on the same basis it provides them to its own retail arm, but McGauchie said it was impossible to do this as well as maintain low-priced services in the bush, as required by the Government.
