Tasmanian government underwrites Meander dam
31 Oct 2005

The Tasmanian government said it would underwrite the purchase of water from the proposed Meander Dam from Tasmanian Water Solutions. The state government purchase is essential to secure finance from Bendigo Bank. Local farmers have otherwise committed to buy only one third of the water. TWS required forward sales of 15,000 megalitres of the 24,000 megalitres to be taken up by farmers, but found buyers for only about 8,000 megalitres.
