Tasmanian cherries nicked not picked 18 Nov 2005
President of Fruit Growers Tasmania, Tim Reid has been accused of taking illegal cuttings from cherry trees in Japan and bringing them back to Australia. Reid is now hoping to sell cherries to the Japanese market and denies that the branches were taken illegally responding that he was given the cuttings and followed all Australian quarantine laws and international plant variety regulations. Japanese officials are insisting Mr Reid cut down all of his 25,000 Japanese cherry trees.
