Organic demand outgrows supply 5 Dec 2005
Producers in the organic food chain are experiencing a clash of cultures, between the idealistic principles of organic production and the reality of contemporary retailing.
Macro Wholefoods, Australia's largest dedicated organic retailer, cannot keep up with demand. Macro often fails to source 20 per cent of ordered stock from processors.
The organic industry is worth about $390 million annually and is growing by 25 per cent each year, according to Australian Certified Organic, which certifies most organic produce in Australia.
