AWB and Futuris buy BHP out of Hi-Fert

AWB and Futuris hope to further erode the dominant market position of Incitec in the supply and distribution of fertiliser in eastern Australia. The pair bought BHP out of the previously three-way joint venture, Hi-Fert. AWB and Futuris will now run Hi-Fert on an equal basis. Hi-Fert will still distribute ammonium phosphate fertilisers through South Cross Fertilisers, a subsidiary of BHP. Incitec Pivot recently said it was losing market share.
