Nationals say Labor out of touch 4 Jan 2008
The Nationals leader Warren Truss has attacked the Rudd government as being anti-farmer for planning to review drought relief payments. Mr Truss said that Labor was out of touch with rural Australia and that they needed to listen to farmers "before pronouncing cures for industry ailments". He went on to say that it was simplistic to claim that the problems faced by the rural sector could be solved by more research into climate change. The National Farmers Federation has supported the government's plan saying that farmers wanted to help to adapt to climate change.
