Bureau confirms 2007 was a hot one 4 Jan 2008
2007 was the warmest year on record for South Australia, Victoria, NSW and the Murray-Darling Basin. Figures from the Bureau of Meteorology show that temperatures in Canberra were 1.8C above the long term average while South Australian temperatures were 1.1C above the median, giving the state its 15th consecutive year of above average temperatures. The north and north-east of the country had average to above average rainfall for the year but the south-west experienced average to below average levels. The bureau said that the current drought is one of the worst on record with record high temperatures and record low inflows to water storages.
