Wet and wild weather in north-east
8 Jan 2008

The Water Minister for Queensland, Craig Wallace, has estimated that about two Sydney Harbour's worth of water (about 923 billion litres) has flowed from Queensland into the Murray-Darling system over the past few weeks. In NSW more rain is expected until the end of the week but should not be enough to cause further flooding. Ex-tropical cyclone Helen is centred in the Gulf of Carpentaria and has become a tropical low and will drift down towards south-east Queensland, dumping heavy falls in the north of the state. La Nina conditions are expected to continue to persist for a few more months before getting back to normal around the middle of the year.
