Bumper sorghum crop causes storage headache

Spring rains are expected to have helped farmers in NSW and Queensland to produce their best sorghum crop in years. The forecast for the total crop is more than 2 million tonnes and should fetch $250 to $260 per tonne. The biggest problem faced by growers is where to store the crop after harvest but Darling Downs farmer Clive Brownlie has solved this by buying twelve 250 tonne, 24 metre long silo bags to store the portion of his crop that has not been pre-sold. The good crop result should help to ease the feed shortage and reduce price pressure on chicken, eggs, pork and dairy products.
