Minister told handsets not up to scratch 11 Jan 2008
A report delivered to the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, this week is believed to say that Telstra should not be allowed to switch off its CDMA network until concerns around the availability and suitability of handsets has been addressed. A Telstra spokesman said that while the company was not yet aware of the detail of the Australian Communications and Media Authority report, as long as customers are using the right handsets for their area they should get as good a service as they did on the CDMA network. Mr Conroy has said that he will make a decision on whether Telstra can shut down the CDMA network by January 21.
