Telstra not allowed to shut CDMA network yet

Telstra has been ordered to keep its old CDMA mobile phone network up and running for at least another three months. Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said on Friday that the network cannot be shut down until he is satisfied that NextG is providing an equivalent level of service. A report by the Australian Communications and Media Authority found that NextG provided a footprint and coverage that was similar to CDMA, but only when using an external aerial. Telstra said that the ACMA had not included testing with phones that have the "Blue Tick" which are more sensitive and are recommended for people in regional and remote areas.
