Transport funds won't be diverted
14 Feb 2008

The Infrastructure Minister, Anthony Albanese, has said that AusLink funds are largely allocated, playing down suggestions that the funds would be diverted from land transport improvements to other areas such as water. Groups such as the Business Council of Australia have been urging the government to scrap election promises but Mr Albanese said that the funds were already committed and that the government would be looking for other ways to drive additional investment. Projects that the transport funds will be used for include a $2.2 billion upgrade to the Bruce Highway, $1.1 billion for the Ipswich motorway, $840 for a rail freight track through northern Sydney and $900 million for the Western Ring Road in Victoria.
