Farmers wound up over wind farm 15 Feb 2008
Farmers in the west of NSW are angry at the state government which plans to revoke leases on four grazing properties if a planned wind farm is given the green light. The energy company Epuron is hoping to build Australia's largest wind farm in the ranges north of Broken Hill which would have 500 turbines. The leaseholders had been expecting healthy annual compensation payments for use of the land, but have now been told that they can only deal with the government. Lands Minister, Tony Kelly, said that the graziers cannot negotiate with the company under the terms of their leases, but that the government is committed to compensating for any loss of leaseholder rights.
