R&D the key issue for farming
29 Feb 2008

Federal Agriculture Minister Tony Burke has said that research and development is critical to prepare farming in Australia for climate change. A special planning meeting of state and federal ministers will be held in Cairns to assess the extent of the climate change challenge. Mr Burke said that he wants to find ways of mitigating emissions that don't involve lowering production and that there wasn't anything more urgent than focusing on research and development to address this issue. The forum will also look at how to review drought assistance payments, increase productivity and improve access to overseas markets.
