Grapes a mixed bag
3 Mar 2008

While the outlook for the total grape harvest has improved due to recent rains, the executive director of Wine Grape Growers Australia, Mark Mckenzie, says that it is a mixed bag. The Riverina in NSW are expecting improved yields as is Greater Victoria, but high summer rainfall has caused problems in NSW's Hunter and Mudgee regions. "The wet, warm conditions have caused splitting and rot in some grapes," he said. Despite hot weather WA looks like having a strong vintage while South Australia will be impacted by water supply problems.
