Wool boycott threat spreads

The boycotts against Australian wool farmers could spread unless efforts are increased to end the practice of mulesing sheep. A major Italian weaver, Zignone, said that it has received threats of cancellations from its clients over the practice. Zinone said that it is supplying clients with a copy of the agreement between animal rights group PETA and Australian Wool Innovation but that this was not enough. Over the last few weeks a movement that started in Sweden has spread to Denmark and Germany. Western Australian merino stud Dohne this week announced that it had ended mulesing after breeding a sheep that is resilient to flystrike.
