Apprentice support to stay

The federal government has been forced to back-pedal on a plan to scrap a $50 million agricultural apprenticeship scheme. Pressure from groups such as the National Farmers Federation has brought about a reversal of the planned abolition of the program which provides agricultural and horticultural apprentices with a tool kit worth $800 vouchers fro course fees valued at up to $1,000. The NFF has estimated that the industry will need an additional 100,000 workers when returning to post-drought production levels.
