Live cattle back on track to Egypt
9 May 2008

Live exports of cattle to Egypt will be approved by the federal government. The trade was halted two years ago after serious mistreatment of animals was exposed by a television network. The new agreement ensures that all animals will be slaughtered at a new abattoir east of Cairo where animals will be handled in accordance with international standards for animal welfare. The federal budget is expected to include $7 million committed to improving the standards of all live exports from Australia.
