AWB profit up but still seeks freedom from growers
22 May 2008

AWB will make a second attempt at ending grower control of the company at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders on 21 August. At a meeting in February the company failed to get the 75 per cent agreement from growers required to abolish their control to give AWB greater flexibility in a deregulated grain market. AWB reported a profit increase for the first half of 89 per cent, to $22.3 million including significant items. Excluding significant items the after-tax profit for the six months to the end of March was $48.7 million and shares closed 1 cent higher yesterday at $3.39.
