Beef farms looking better next year 12 Jun 2008
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics said it expected the farm financial performance of Australia's beef cattle producers to recover in both northern and southern Australia in 2007/08. ABARE said the Australian beef industry is in a strong position to expand production following the drought. However, cattle prices are projected to fall. But a recovery in the number of cattle numbers (by about nine per cent) and sales is likely to lead to beef cattle producers realising higher incomes and profitability in coming years. Producers turned-off 13 per cent fewer castle for slaughter in the year to March 2008.
