Rain critical this winter

Rainfall expectations for July and August are average for Victoria, southern NSW and South Australia. Forecasts for northern NSW and Queensland were extremely positive while technical affected Bureau of Meteorology forecasts for south western WA. ABARE said substantial areas had been dry sown this year and depended on rainfall during the growing season to deliver. Victoria's winter crop is expected to be 45 per cent up on last year and deliver 5.5 million tones said ABARE. The area sown this autumn in Victoria is a record 3.3 million hectares.
