Managed investment schemes push new wood plantings
30 Jun 2008

Australia''s wood plantations increased 4.7 per cent last year according to the Bureau of Rural Sciences plantation update. Managed investment scheme growth drove the bulk of the 86,569 hectares of new plantations that were established last year. Most private growers, including MIS, planted hardwood for pulpwood (woodchip) production, although last year there was a noticeable rise in the rate of plantings — teak, mahogany and eucalypt — for sawlogs.
