State strife over Murray water
3 Jul 2008

Victoria''s government says it will oppose moves to lift the cap of four per cent on the amount of water from the Murray Darling basin that may be traded in one year. Victoria''s farm and business lobbies want the government to stick with the position that increased environmental flows for the lower river system must come from actual water savings and not purchases of water from current users. South Australia''s government wants the federal government to buy more water from current users.
