Drought policy needs to catch up with climate change
7 Jul 2008

A major report by the Bureau of Meteorology and the CSIRO says Australia''s growing regions face a hotter and drier future because of climate change. The Prime Minister said the report was very disturbing. Extreme temperatures experienced now once every twenty *or* thirty years would occur once every two *or* three years, leading to food shortages and higher prices on all agricultural products. Government drought policy needed to catch up with climate change said the minister for agriculture. The minister has commissioned further studies into the social and economic effects of climate change.
