Milk supplies tight but exports up
9 Jul 2008

The value of dairy exports has risen while the amount exported has fallen in the 11 months to May 08. The value of exports was up 12 per cent to $2.6 billion. The amount of dairy products exported fell 17 per cent to 655,782 tonnes compared with the same time last year. Milk supplies continue to be tight. More than 80 per cent of Australian dairy herds have bulk-milk cell counts below the 400,000 cells/ml threshold, according to the Countdown Downunder Milk Quality Awards. In a similar result to last year, Northern and Western Victorian and Tasmanian herds have dominated the top 100 list.
