ACCC still undecided on milk merger
10 Jul 2008

National Foods will offload some factories and plants and give up control of its Pura Milk brand in order to satisfy the competition regulators concerns over its proposed takeover of Dairy Farmers. National Foods will sell milk plants in Lidcombe (NSW) and Clarence gardens (SA) as well as offer perpetual licenses over its Dairy Farmer''s brands in South Australia. The company will also offer two year licenses over its Dairy Farmers brands in NSW and the ACT. The ACCC said it had not yet formed a view on whether the planned divestitures would alleviate competition concerns about the proposed merger. The regulator was due to rule on the merger last week, but has postponed that decision to give market participants an opportunity to comment on the latest undertakings by National Foods.
