Farm grants not popular
14 Jul 2008

$4.4 million has been paid to just 32 farmers who applied for the federal government''s grant to leave their unviable properties. The grant which was doubled by the Howard government shortly before last year''s election has attracted just 411 applications, with just 32 being approved to date. 186 applications have been rejected, 100 depend on the sale of farmland and another 93 are being assessed by Centrelink.
