Crop exports up as dairy prices crash
4 Mar 2009

Wheat, barley, canola, lupins, peas, raw cotton, sugar and lamb exports are forecast to rise this year according to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Research and Economics (ABARE). Dairy and beef are not expected to increase exports this year. Dairy prices are tipped to fall 19 per cent in 2008/09 to about 40 cents per litre and 14 per cent next year to 34 cents. Dairy prices are expected to bottom out at 29 cents in 2011 and improve slightly from there. ABARE said beef and veal export demand will fall in 2009-10, but saleyard prices should remain high in 2010-11.
