New wheat orders from Middle East
20 Aug 2002

Australia has won new orders for wheat from two Middle East countries, the Federal Trade Minister, Mark Vaile, said yesterday. Mr Vaile announced the two new deals as he praised AWB for its recent breakthrough in discussions which freed up Australian wheat shipments impounded in Iraqi ports.

The two new deals are estimated to be worth around $25 million in total. They are for an extra 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Jordan, the first order from that country since 1996, and for 50,000 tonnes to Libya, following a recent trade delegation to that country which included both Mr Vaile and the chairman of AWB.
